Ocean Decade Data & Information Strategy

“Digitizing, accessing, managing and, most importantly, using ocean-related data, information and knowledge will be cornerstones of the success of the Ocean Decade.”

To help achieve the Decade’s data and information ambitions the “Ocean Decade Data and Information Strategy” was first published in May 2023, with the Vision to have by 2030:

A trusted, inclusive, and interconnected ocean data and information ecosystem that is actively used for decision making to support sustainable ocean management.”

Recognising that many elements of a digital ecosystem already exist, the Strategy aims to leverage these existing infrastructures, systems and capacities, while also allowing for new data sources, information networks and solutions to be integrated as the Ocean Decade needs evolve.

Through the Ocean Decade, and this Strategy, we have a unique opportunity to transform the way ocean data and information are produced, shared, managed and used globally and equitably.

Through its work to support the Decade Actions with their data and information management needs, the DCO for Ocean Data Sharing will support the implementation of this Strategy.
